The Mayor’s Office of Black Male Engagement (OBME) in Philadelphia works to close the opportunity divide for men and boys of color in the region and reduce economic and social disparities that affect them. During Black History Month in February 2020, The Intersect partnered with OBME to host an event as part of the Black Generational Wealth Series, a month-long workshop series offering tools, knowledge, and stories to facilitate informative and inspiring conversations about wealth in the Black community.
On February 11 during the event series, The Intersect hosted “Building Blocks: Opportunities to Build with the City” where speakers discussed opportunities available with Rebuild—Mayor Jim Kenney’s investment of hundreds of millions of dollars to revitalize parks, recreation centers, and libraries in Philadelphia—as well as other city construction projects. Speakers also shared best practices for finding and securing city contracts.
